We are hiring Backend Engineers to help build and scale one of the world's largest real-time communication platforms.

As part of a global engineering organization, you will work on highly distributed backend systems responsible for processing billions of user interactions every day. You'll tackle challenges related to scalability, reliability, performance, observability, and security while helping evolve the platform for future growth.

What You'll Do

• Design and develop backend services and APIs
• Build scalable, fault-tolerant distributed systems
• Improve system reliability, performance, and observability
• Collaborate with platform, infrastructure, and product teams
• Enhance CI/CD pipelines, testing, and operational excellence
• Contribute to long-term architecture and platform evolution
• Participate in production support and incident management

Requirements

• 3+ years of backend development experience
• Strong foundations in algorithms, data structures, networking, and concurrency
• Experience with Java, Kotlin, Scala, or similar backend technologies
• Experience working in a collaborative software engineering environment
• Business-level Japanese or English communication skills

Nice to Have

• Experience with high-traffic systems
• Distributed systems design
• Kafka, Redis, MongoDB, HBase, or similar technologies
• Kubernetes and containerized environments
• SRE, observability, or production operations experience
• CI/CD and modern software delivery practices

We are looking for experienced Senior and Staff Engineers to lead the evolution of a large-scale real-time platform serving millions of users globally.

This role combines hands-on engineering, architecture leadership, technical strategy, and mentoring. You will help shape the future of highly available, distributed backend systems while driving engineering excellence across teams.

What You'll Do

• Lead the design of large-scale distributed systems and backend architectures
• Define technical direction and long-term platform strategy
• Drive scalability, reliability, security, and observability initiatives
• Partner with Product, Infrastructure, Security, and SRE teams
• Improve automation, testing, CI/CD, and operational practices
• Mentor engineers and establish engineering best practices
• Guide technical decision-making across multiple teams

Requirements

• Proven experience building and scaling high-traffic distributed systems
• Expertise in Java, Kotlin, Scala, or equivalent backend technologies
• Strong system design and architecture experience
• Track record of leading complex technical initiatives
• Experience working across multiple stakeholder groups
• Business-level Japanese or English communication skills

Nice to Have

• SRE and reliability engineering experience
• Kubernetes and cloud-native infrastructure
• Distributed databases and event-driven architectures
• Observability platforms and performance optimization
• Security engineering and production operations experience
